Pump your legs back and forth, as if riding a bicycle. Simultaneously, rotate your torso from side to side by moving an armpit, but not elbow, up toward the opposite knee. Exercise # 3 Crunch Twist STEP 1. Lie on your back on the floor and raise your head and upper shoulders off the mat slightly. Lace your fingers from both hands together behind your inclined head for support while keeping your elbows wide apart. Do NOT bend your head toward your chest, keep it perpendicular to your torso but bend your knees 90 degrees, and raise your feet 1-2 inches off of the floor. STEP 2. While twisting your torso to the left so that your right elbow moves toward your left knee, contract your stomach muscles. Ensure that you are lifting your left shoulder off the floor. At the height of the movement, pause, then slowly return to your starting position without relaxing your muscles. Alternate between leftward and rightward twists. Exercise # 4 Oblique V-Up STEP 1. Lie on your side with your body in a straight line and your arms crossed against your chest. STEP 2. Life your legs off the floor, making sure to keep them tightly bound together. You should feel your obliques contracting, even though there isn&#8217;t too much motion involved. STEP 3. Pause, then slowly return to the starting position. Repeat as many times as needed, then switch sides. Exercise # 5 Pulse Up STEP 1. Lie on your back with your hands underneath your tailbone and have your legs straight upward, as illustrated. STEP 2. Pull your navel inward and flex your glutes as you lift your hips just a few inches off the floor. Then lower your hips. Exercise # 6 Reverse Crunch STEP 1. Lie on your back on the floor and raise your head and upper shoulders off the mat slightly. Lace your fingers from both hands together behind your inclined head for support while keeping your elbows wide apart. Do NOT bend your head toward your chest, keep it perpendicular to your torso but bend your knees 90 degrees, and raise your feet 1-2 inches off of the floor. STEP 2. Then, lift your knees in a smooth arc toward your head while keeping everything else as still as possible. Once your knees are directly above your upper abdomen, pause, contract the abs, and then lower your feet back down slowly in reverse. Do not let them touch the floor though and ensure you continue to maintain tension in your abdominal muscles. Exercise # 7 Side Crunch STEP 1. Keep your legs straight and extend your right arm along the floor (for balance) while lying on your right side. Cup your left hand behind your head while holding your head a few inches above the floor with your elbow pointing toward the ceiling, as shown. Remember to keep your head still (do not bend it toward your feet) throughout the movement phase. STEP 2. Contract the muscles of the left side of your torso while moving your upper torso toward your feet so that your upper body curls in a smooth arc. Simultaneously, lift your legs upward, while keeping your ankles locked together, to form a &#8220;V&#8221; shape with your body. When your obliques are fully contracted, begin returning slowly to the starting position. Reverse your position afterward doing several repeats to work the right side of the body. Exercise # 8 Superman This exercise helps develop core strength and both spinal strength and stability, as well as working the muscles that retract the shoulder blade retractors and the gluteals. STEP 1. Kneel on all fours with your knees under your hips and hip-distance apart and put your hands on the floor a shoulder-width apart under your shoulders. Put your spine into the neutral position. Activate your core by drawing your abdominal muscles back toward your spine. STEP 2. 			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>As many of you may remember the home fitness gym of years ago was probably taking up the majority of space in a garage and the equipment was old and rusty. You might have wanted to make sure you had your last Tetanus shot before going out in the hot garage for a rusty old workout.</p>
<p>Well times have certainly changed. Today you may find state of the art pieces of equipment or not a single use of expensive equipment. In either case you can still achieve ultimate physical fitness with the focus on core body fitness.</p>
<p>As many have probably heard about or possibly purchased the P90x system is a new home workout system that focuses on core body fitness with few pieces of affordable home workout equipment. With just a couple of barbells and a workout rubber band you can have a six pack in no time. Well, let&#8217;s not got that far as it all takes time, right?</p>
<p>Most fitness experts recommend some type of weight resistance along with cardio equipment to have a home gym. Now this can be the start of a very expensive shopping spree since major exercise systems with weight stacks can cost at least ,000. Then, on the cardio front, a treadmill or elliptical machine can run ,000 and an exercise bike will even run 0. You can&#8217;t tell me we are still in the age of spending thousands of dollars on equipment that will likely be doubling as a clothes line, are we?</p>
<p>Before jumping on the home fitness bandwagon one major consideration that must be addressed is diet. As we all know the vast majority of our results is what goes in our mouth. <p>This leads us into the ever dreaded but so important topic of goal setting. If we can&#8217;t (or maybe won&#8217;t is more like it) set goals we are going to be in trouble. Goal setting is very cliche and it&#8217;s all we hear about when it comes to fitness, or work, or simply life in general. But, you can&#8217;t argue that people who set goals get better results. Perhaps we just need to sit down and do it and not make such a fuss about it.</p>
<p>A good question some may be asking is how do I get away from the TV, cell phone, kids at home, pets at home, the neighbor at the door, etc. and get a workout done. Well you do need to limit distractions as these workout intruders and sure to show their ugly faces otherwise. A good way to limit these distractions is to have an isolated area for the home gym. Now, you don&#8217;t need a full on room dedicated to the gym but you need an area that lets you get the job done.</p>
<p>So we have our equipment, limited our distractions and are eating good but after a few days it&#8217;s getting OLD. What to do? There are several things to do. Pick up a workout buddy. Drag your neighbor or relative off the couch and make them join you. Maybe pay them a few bucks to do so. The buddy system works here. You can also find affordable DVD&#8217;s that you follow and those keep you going. And maybe that TV distraction isn&#8217;t such a bad thing when you have five more minutes of jogging in place to do. Now that sounds like a good idea.</p>
<p>To expand on jogging in place you don&#8217;t need big bucks for a killer home gym. Let me repeat that. You don&#8217;t need thousands of dollars for a home gym. Barbells and rubber bands are cheap. A garage sale can get you a cheap bench as well. Further, walking, running in place, push-ups and crunches are all equipment free and great exercises. Finally, if you have a young one in the house glued to that gaming system perhaps the Wii Fitness joins your arsenal of workout tools and you can also have some quality time with the kids.</p>
